Carl Spilman

VAN HORNE: Carl L. Spilman, Jr., 79, died Sunday, December 21, 1014 at the Keystone Nursing Care Center in Keystone following an extended illness.

A Celebration Of Life will be held from 2 – 5 PM, Saturday, January 3. 2014 at Porky’s on J Street SW in Cedar Rapids.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Carl was born April 8, 1935 to Carl William and Helen (Jakoubek) Spilman, Sr. in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from St. Wenseslaus High School in Cedar Rapids in 1953.

On July 14, 1956 he was united in marriage to Bernice Stastny and they were later divorced. He married Julie Pozimek on February 10, 1979 in Cedar Rapids and they were also divorced.

Carl was employed at Montgomery Ward's in Iowa City for twenty years and as a Sales Manager for the Des Moines Register for twenty-five years. Carl loved playing Lotto and was a Hawkeye Football fan. He was a member of the Solos Group in Cedar Rapids.

Carl is survived by his children, Jeff (Joan) Spilman of Cedar Rapids, Michael Spilman of Riverside, Terry (Dana) Spilman of Wyoming, Mary (Eric) Hohensee of Cedar Rapids, Julie Pettit of Winfield, Chris (Kendrae) Spilman of Cedar Rapids, and Tiffany (Melvin) Barlow of Havelock, NC; twenty-one grandchildren; and twenty-two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
