BLAIRSTOWN – Mildred Helena Schulte Sokol, 102, died Thursday, January 22, 2015, at the Keystone Nursing Care Center following a brief illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 26, 2015, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Blairstown with Rev. Craig Steimel as Celebrant. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday, January 25, beginning at 4 p.m. and concluding with the reciting of the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be in St. Patrick and St. Paul Cemetery, Watkins.
Mildred was born April 8, 1912, in Fairfax, Iowa, the daughter of Richard and Mary Ockenfels Stallman.
On September 14, 1932, Mildred was united in marriage with Arley Schulte in Fairfax. The couple farmed together during their marriage. Arley preceded her in death on October 21, 1981. On June 14, 1983, Mildred married Milo Sokol in Blairstown. He preceded her in death on October 31, 1987.
Mildred was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing cards and baby-sitting her nieces, nephews and grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family.
Mildred is survived by three daughters: Adeline Schmuecker of Blairstown; Donna (John) Heilman of Pomeroy; and Darlene Ohlen of Blairstown; one brother, Claire (Kaye) Stallman of Phoenix, AZ; sister-in-law Betty Stallman of Fairfax; 14 grandchildren: Cindi (Duane) Andrew, Randy (Linda) Schmuecker, Sandy (Larry) Kaiser, Mark Schmuecker, Sue (Allen) Ehrman, Rick (Kristi) Schmuecker, Teresa (Eric) Hopton, Dwayne, Terry and Jerry Schmuecker, Deb (Gary Novotny) Wodstrichill, Mandy (Ron) Stevenson, Craig Ohlen and Kathy (Scott) Novotny; 31 great-grandchildren; 31 great-great-grandchildren; 2-step-great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; sons-in-law Dwayne Schmuecker and Larry Ohlen; a granddaughter, Becky Ohlen Smith; two sisters, Agnes Stallman and Velda Beranek; and three brothers, Francis, Leonard and Richard Stallman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hospice of Mercy, the Keystone Nursing Care Center or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Keystone Care Center and Hospice of Mercy for their excellent care of Mildred.
