VINTON – Elaine Wilma Selk Bookmeier, 82, a resident of the Vinton Lutheran Home, passed away there Saturday, January 31, 2015. Per Elaine’s request, her body was cremated and private family services will be held. She will be laid to rest in Keystone Cemetery.
Elaine was born on November 24, 1932, in Keystone, Iowa, the daughter of Wilhelm and Alice Pohlmann Selk. She was the Valedictorian of her class, graduating in 1951 from Keystone High School. On January 16, 1952, Elaine was united in marriage with Wesley Ray Bookmeier in Belle Plaine.
Elaine was a farm wife in the Keystone and Garrison areas until moving to Vinton in 1968. She worked at Garrison Poultry, and then as a bookkeeper at Robinson International, Thurman’s
Tri-T and Hawk Bilt Manufacturing. She was also an aide at the Keystone Nursing Care Center and worked in the kitchen for Vinton-Shellsburg schools. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, square dancing and crossword puzzles.
Elaine is survived by two sons, Ray (Barb) and Alan Bookmeier, of Vinton; two grandchildren, Anita (Jason) Yessak and Kevin (Michelle) Bookmeier; and three great-grandchildren, Jordan and Marissa Yessak and Matthew Bookmeier.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Wesley, on September 28, 2014; her mother- and father-in-law, Fred and Anna Bookmeier; one sister and her husband, Maurine and Albert Arp; and one sister-in-law and her husband, Norma and Dale Grimm.
A memorial fund has been established.
