KEYSTONE:

F. Richard “Dick” Conway, 88, died Sunday, February 1, 2015 at the Keystone Nursing Care Center.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, February 6, 2015 at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone with Deacon Joseph Behounek officiating. Interment will be held at the Keystone Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Merkel-Bockholt American Legion Post #107 of Keystone. Lunch will be served at the Keystone Turner Hall following the Committal Service. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday where a Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. A Memorial Fund has been established.

Francis Richard Conway, known to family and friends as “Dick” was born September 14, 1926 in Bussey, IA to Gerald T. and Grace May (Rouze) Conway. He graduated from the Keystone High School in 1944.

Dick served his nation in the US Navy during World War II and was a member of the Merkel-Bockholt American Legion Post #107 of Keystone.

On April 10, 1947 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Miller at the Immaculate Conception Parsonage in Van Horne.

Dick graduated from the Cedar Rapids Barber College and owned Conway Barber Shop in Keystone. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Van Horne, and the Keystone Turners. He served on the Keystone Cemetery Board and the Keystone Care Center Advocate Committee. He was instrumental in organizing Benton County Civil Defense and was a long time member of the Benton County Amateur Radio Club. Dick served on the Keystone Park Board and Trees Forever for a number of years.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marilyn Conway of Keystone; his children, David (Rose) Conway of Cedar Rapids, Sally Conway of Dillon, Montana, and Julie (David) Simmen of Central City; his grandchildren, Josh (Kristin) Conway, Holly (Agustin) Reyes, Caleb Hartz, Carly (Nate) May, Cain Hartz, Conor Hartz, Zach (Jennifer) Simmen, Jacob Simmen, and Sarah Simmen; eleven great grandchildren; his sister, Mary (Bob Reinbrecht) Beason; his brother, Don (Linda) Conway and numerous nieces and nephews.

His parents and his brothers, Philip and James preceded him in death.
