CEDAR RAPIDS: Sherry Marie Higgins Haferbecker, 44, died February 24, 2015 at her residence in Cedar Rapids.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th St. in Vinton with Rev. Walt Grimes officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Public Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Phillips Family Center, 605 2nd Ave. in Vinton. A Memorial Fund has been established.

Sherry was born June 7, 1970 to George and Doreen (Campbell) Higgins and was raised in Vinton by her grandmother, Maurine Campbell. She graduated from Vinton's Washington High School where she played in the school band.

Sherry was the Head Custodian at Prairie Hill Elementary School in Cedar Rapids. She truly enjoyed her special duties as the handler of "Primos" the therapy dog provided to the school through CARE.

Sherry is survived by her daughters, Katie Ann Maurine Friedhoff of Coralville and Allison Patricia Friedhoff of Oxford; and her brothers, Tony, Lloyd, Joel and Jeff Higgins.

Her grandparents preceded her in death.

Shared the same locker as seniors in high school.. We lost touch with each other, the summer after graduation. She wouldnt harm anyone. This just isnt right!
MH March 2, 2015, 8:42 pm I was very saddened and disturbed to hear of Sherry\'s death. I graduated high school with her and she was in church youth group with me. She was always very kind to everyone.
M(B March 2, 2015, 9:24 pm I also graduated with Sherry and played in band with her. She had a very kind and compassionate heart. Sherry usually had a smile if you couldn\'t find yours. It is not a surprise to know she worked with a therapy dog. Prayers for comfort and strength to her family.
LW March 2, 2015, 9:31 pm My memory of Sherry is going with her to the Drake Honor Band in Des Moines. She invited me to stay with her at a family member\'s. We had a really good time. I also remember passing her when walking to school and she\'d always give me the sweetest smile. This is so tragic and I only wish that this hadn\'t have happened.
BaAE March 3, 2015, 5:38 pm We are very saddened to learn of the death of Sherry. We were her youth group leaders at the First Christian Church. Sherry was one of the sweetest girls you would ever meet. She also would help us at our home with the kids and cleaning. Her smile was infectious. Our deepest sympathy to her family and close friends. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
