Priscilla Lou (Wells) Stanko, also known as Perk, from Bloomington, MN, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015 at the age of 92, after a lengthy battle with rheumatoid arthritis. Full of generosity and adventure, may we carry on her spark with us.
Perk was born on Nov. 8, 1922 in Ashton, IA the daughter of Don and Belle (Swigert) Wells. She attended school in Vinton, IA and moved to Toledo in 1939. She graduated from Toledo High School in 1940. Perk then attended Coe College and graduated from there in 1946. She got a job in Newton, IA as director of the YWCA there.
On Sept. 1, 1951 she was united in marriage to Edward Stanko. Born to this union were Sandy, Karen and Bruce.
After the passing of Bruce in 1971, Perk and Ed saw a need of a home for families to stay in while their children were in the hospital. They united with doctors and friends to purchase a home and that became the first of many Ronald McDonald homes in the Twin Cities. They were very proud of their accomplishment in helping others in need.
Perk is survived by her husband Ed and daughters Sandy and Karen, also seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild that was the apple of her eye. Ellen (Wells) Collins, a half-sister also survives.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her son, Bruce; her sister, Charlotte and brother, Bill; and her step-mother Ruth Wells.
Memorial services will be held on May 16, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church in Bloomming, MN.
