VINTON:
Josephine Geiger, 95, died Thursday, May 7, 2015 at her residence following an extended illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th St. in Vinton with Chaplain Joseph T. Kane officiating. Interment will be held at the Garrison Cemetery in Garrison. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. A Memorial Fund has been established.
Josephine was born August 28, 1919 at LaPorte City to Albert and Mary Pearl (Tooey) Riley.
On December 2, 1937 she was united in marriage to Warren N. Geiger at Waterloo. Warren preceded her in death in 1989.
Josephine retired after twenty-six years from Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed puzzles, bingo, growing flowers and fishing. She was well known for being able to whip up a delicious meal at a moment’s notice. Everyone in her family looked forward to her pot of homemade chicken and noodles simmering on her stove. Her family was her world and meant everything to her.
She is survived by her five grandchildren, Jimmie Geiger of Garrison, Mike (Jodi) Geiger of Vinton, Becky (Tim) Hildenbrand of Cedar Rapids, Susan Smith of Amarillo, TX, and Devon (Andy) Hyde of London England; her twelve great-grandchildren, Cody, Curtis, Brandan, Mikayla, Alex, Andy, Chelsea and Chance Geiger, Caleb Colten, Ashley Massingill, Bobbie Jo Hansen, and Cheyenne Smith and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, Robert, Warren “Allen” and Steven, her grandson Bobby Geiger; and eleven siblings.
