VINTON – Josephine M. Erickson, 94, died Sunday, January 10, 2016, at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab in Vinton.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016, at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vinton with Rev. Mark C. Urlaub officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time, also at the church. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
Josephine was born June 13, 1921, in Brandon, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Freda Fuehrer Mealhow. She was a 1939 graduate of Lincoln High School in Vinton.
On June 4, 1942, Josephine was united in marriage with Carl Albert Erickson in Cedar Rapids. He preceded her in death on December 24, 1972.
Josephine was a clerk at Feller’s Department Store in Vinton for 20 years.
She was a member of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a Sunday School teacher and participated in the Sewing Circle. She loved spending time with family and especially enjoyed painting and reading. She will be remembered for her humble nature and commitment to living a faithful life.
Josephine is survived by two sons: Keith (Kathy) Erickson of Fort Pierce, FL; and Bruce (Joyce) Erickson of Vinton; one brother, Paul “Bud” Mealhow of Waterloo; brothers-in-law Don (Edna Winsor) & Ken Erickson, both of Vinton; four grandchildren: Jennifer (Nick) Hodgson, Jeff Erickson, Lori (Mike) Cranston and Mark Erickson; and eight great-grandchildren: Paige, Nicholas, Marissa, Madison, Brooks, Curtis, Tess and Aly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister in infancy; sister Pauline Kessens; brother Louie Mealhow; and great-grandson Reece Erickson.
