VINTON: Lorraine Vest, 73, died Monday, February 29, 2016 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Stephen K. Preus officiating. Interment will be at the Garrison Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM, Friday at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth Street in Vinton. Lorraine was born July 7, 1942 to Charles and Hazel (Sherk) Yoch on the family farm near Van Horne. She graduated from Newhall High School.

She was united in marriage to Gerald “Jerry” Vest on April 29, 1961 in rural Vinton. Jerry preceded Lorraine in death on December 4, 2013.

Lorraine was currently the secretary for Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton. She began working at the church in 1967 and has dedicated more than 49 years. Previously she had worked at Benton County Title Company.

She was a faithful and active member of Trinity Lutheran Church participating in many church activities. In her leisure she was known as an excellent baker and she loved to read, bowl and roller skate and going on her daily walks.

Lorraine is survived by her sons, Craig (Lori) Vest of Garrison, Randy (Kelly) Vest of Vinton; her grandchildren, Shane Vest of Keystone and Blake Vest of Vinton; her siblings, Sheryl (Stuart) Watkins of Brookings, Oregon, Darlene (Larry) O’Brian of Shellsburg, Luella (Gary) Sparks of Turner, Oregon, Lewis (Lynn) Yoch of Vinton, Gayle (Danny Wallander) Barshae of Cedar Rapids and Debbie (Randy) Krewson of Atkins and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jerry and a still born brother, Delbert.
