A funeral service for Everett Schirm, 86, of Armstrong, Iowa, will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2016, at United Methodist Church in Armstrong, with Pastor Lyndon Roesler officiating. Interment will be at Armstrong Grove Cemetery, Armstrong, Iowa. Military rites are by the Armstrong VFW.
Everett passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at his home near Armstrong, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Armstrong.
Everett Jacob Schirm was born March 17, 1930, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of George and Opal (Frank) Schirm. Everett graduated in 1948 from Lincoln High School in Vinton. From there, he entered the U.S. Air Force where he was honorably discharged in 1952. He then attended TV repair school in Des Moines, Iowa, where he met Loretta.
On May 4, 1957, Everett was united to Loretta Jensen at the Little Brown Church. The couple made their home in the Armstrong/Ringsted area.
Everett had many passions among them were farming, fishing, carpentry, gambling and morning coffee at the Stateline Elevator. Everett was a member of the United Methodist Church in Armstrong. He also served on numerous boards including: Veterans Affairs Commission, United Methodist Church, Armstrong Museum, Armstrong Coop Elevator and Armstrong Grove Trustees.
Left to cherish Everett's memory are his children, Lori (Jeff) Felkey of Armstrong, Rick (Tamarah) Schirm of Arlington, Texas; five grandchildren, Nicole (Joe) Gries, Lacey (Paul) Laake, Anthony (Erica) Felkey, Cassandra Schirm, and Cole Schirm; eight great-grandchildren, Hudson, Hayden and Abby Felkey, Jack and Sam Laake, Michael, Hannah and John Gries; siblings, Dean (Helen) Schirm of St. Petersburg, Fla., Robert (Jeanne) Schirm of Lincoln, Neb., Donna (Jim) Merchant of Vinton, Iowa, Gary (Gerry) Schirm of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and brother-in-law, Gale Craig of Armstrong.
Preceding Everett in death were his wife, Loretta; parents, George and Opal; sister, Joan; and sister-in-law, Eyvona Craig.
Memorials in Everett's name can be given to the church or a foundation of your choice.
