Obituaries : Dennis A. Bierschenk

NEWHALL: Dennis A. Bierschenk, 74, died Thursday, November 3, 2016 at St. Luke's Hospice care in Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 7, 2016 at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall with Rev. Douglas Woltemath officiating. Interment will be held at St. John Cemetery rural Newhall. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church in Newhall. A memorial fund has been established. Dennis was born on January 5, 1942 at Van Horne, the son of Melvin and Viola (Buettner) Bierschenk. He graduated from Newhall High School with the class of 1960. On November 4, 1960, he was united in marriage to Linda Furler at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall. Linda preceded Dennis in death in 2010. A busy dairy farmer, father and grandfather, Dennis was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall, and engaged in many activities associated with dairy farming and Holstein cattle. He is survived by his sons, Cary (Jen) Bierschenk of Van Horne, Steve (Monica) Bierschenk of Wildwood, MO.; grandchildren, Kyle Dhondt, Zach, Ally, Jacob, Gabriel and Rachael Bierschenk; brother Niles Bierschenk of Van Horne; his mother-in-law, Irene Furler of Newhall; sister-in-law Kathryn (Tom) Hannemann of Iowa City and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife Linda, He was preceded in death by his sister Carole and his father-in-law Arnold Furler.
