BELLE PLAINE – Alvin “Bud” Schild, 88, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2010, at Northbrook Manor Care in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness. Bud’s family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday. Oct. 11, at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone. Public graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Keystone Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Merkel-Bockholt American Legion Post 107 of Keystone. The family requests those attending to come in casual attire.
Alvin was born May 1, 1922, in Belle Plaine, to Lewis and Lena (Hellerman) Schild and was fondly known as “Bud.” A man who loved agriculture, Bud farmed near Belle Plaine until 1966 and then was employed at Farmstead, until retiring in 1983.
On Nov. 22, 1991, he married Libbie Preston at Cedar Rapids. In addition to farming, Bud loved fishing, bowling and playing cards.
He is survived by his wife, Libbie; his children, Marilyn (Kent) Klein, Maxine (Dean) Main, and Marlin (Shawn) Schild; his stepchildren. Mike (Malinda) Preston and David Preston; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Schild; and relatives, Adeline McIlrath, Elmer Schild, Leona Scheel, Gary Preston, and Pattie Preston.
