NEWHALL: Richard Sheldon, 82 died Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth Street in Vinton with Rev Jessica Crane-Munoz officiating. Interment will be in the Urbana Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Tuesday also at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Parkinson’s Foundation. Phillips Funeral Home – Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
Richard was born February 25, 1936 to Cecil and Eva (Gruman) Sheldon in Lamont, Iowa. He attended school in Lamont and graduated from Lamont High School in 1953. After working around Lamont a few years, he enlisted in the U.S Air Force in February 1958. While in the Air Force he spent a year and a half in Taiwan and the remainder at Keesler AFB in Mississippi. After leaving the Air Force in Feb. 1962 he entered Iowa State University in the Fall of 1962. He received his BSEE degree from ISU in the spring of 1967.
He married Patricia Glime on June 10, 1967. He worked as an electrical engineer for various companies in the Midwest until he retired in August of 2001.
Richard is survived by his children and grandchildren, Steve (Tanya) Sheldon of Chanhassen, MN and their children, Alexander and Maia Sheldon; son, Neil (Amy) Sheldon of Mount Calvary, MN and their children, Amanda and Nathan Sheldon; his brother, Kenneth (Carol) Sheldon of Cedar Rapids and his sister, Elaine Akerly of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Patricia.
