SHELLSBURG: Kermit Robertson, 81 of Shellsburg died Friday, September 14, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following a sudden illness. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, September 20, 2018 at the Shellsburg Presbyterian Church with Pastor J.R. Henderson officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Shellsburg. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 PM, Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth Street in Vinton. Kermit was born February 1, 1937 in Benton County to Harold and Mattie (Noeller) Robertson. He graduated from Shellsburg High School in 1955. Kermit was united in marriage to Betty Myres on September 19, 1959 at the Palo Methodist Church.
Kermit served his country in the United States Army from 1959 – 1962. He worked as a crane operator for Alliant Energy at the 6th Street Power Plant in Cedar Rapids. Kermit retired form Alliant Energy in 2000. He was a member of the Shellsburg Presbyterian Church and the Shellsburg Lions Club. He served on the Shellsburg City Council and the CBS Fire Department Board of Directors.
Kermit enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He loved to watch his grandchildren participate in sporting events. Kermit enjoyed spending time tending to his garden and raising chickens.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; his two sons, Rick (Judy) Robertson and Craig (Sheri Mullinex) Robertson all of Shellsburg; his five grandchildren, Cody Robertson, Brittany (Aaron) Seaton, Alex Springer, Sydney Robertson and Clark Robertson; one great grandson, Camden Seaton; his brother, Keith Robertson of Dubuque; his sister, Marilyn (Floyd) Petersen of Kingston, NY; his brother-in-law, Dwayne (Cheryl) Myres of Palo and his sister-in-law, Phyllis Thompson of Shellsburg and many nieces and nephews.
Kermit was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harold and Wayne Robertson.
