Vern Roseberry, 84, of Center Point, Iowa, passed away Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018, at the Dennis & Donna Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov, 27, 2018, with services beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Vern was born June 20, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Paul and Merle (Thompson) Roseberry. He graduated from Center Point High School. Vern married Velma Benson on July 20, 1954, at First Christian Church, Center Point. He worked at National Oats and Collins Radio before he retired in 1991. Vern was very active in sports and even played on the town baseball team until he was 40. He loved baseball, softball, golf, hunting and ice skating. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, and one of his favorite drivers was Dale Earnhardt Jr. Vern loved cars, Iowa Hawkeyes football and wrestling. He also enjoyed the Packers, country music and his all-time favorite singer, Gene Watson. Survivors include his wife, Velma Roseberry of Center Point; daughters, Debbie Merritt of Marion and Cindi Peacock of Hiawatha; grandchildren, Reece Merritt of Marion and Paige Peacock of Hiawatha; son-in-law, Bill Merritt of Marion; stepsister, Jeanette Rhodes of Donna, Texas; sisters-in-law, Helen Wall of Richardson, Texas, Ann Comried of Plano, Texas, and Pat Sherman of Center Point; brothers-in-law, Wayne Carver of Center Point, Bill Benson of Shellsburg, Iowa, and Ken (Pat) Benson of Middletown, Ohio; brothers, Mike (Priscillia) Roseberry of Central City, Iowa, and Dave (Michele) Roseberry of Fairfax, Iowa; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and his cat, Buddy. Vern was preceded in death by his mother, Merle Thompson; stepfather, George Thompson; father, Paul Roseberry; stepmother, Bernita Roseberry; sister, Shirley Roseberry; stepbrother, Fred Cress; brothers-in-law, Don Rhodes, Ed Wall, Bob Benson, Jim Sherman and Raymond Haars; and sisters-in-law, Vi Haars, Barb Carver, Virginia Benson and Robyn Benson. The family would like to thank Randy Smith and Keith and Karen Brimmer for helping out while Vern was sick.
