Ralph Sigfred Kofoed, 84, of Vinton, passed away Monday, December 10, 2018 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. A private family graveside service will be held Friday, December 14, at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. The family will receive visitors that afternoon from 4-6 in the gathering area at the Cobblestone Inn, Vinton.
Ralph was born February 23, 1934 in Vinton, the son of Sigfred and Ida Johansson Kofoed.
Ralph attended Lincoln High School and graduated with the class of 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. On April 6, 1957 he married Bettiann Halverson in Vinton. Ralph was a carpenter by trade and later in his career worked at the Tilford Middle School. He and Bettiann loved camping, especially at the Old Threshers Reunion in Mt Pleasant IA. They also enjoyed dancing. Ralph was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Bettiann preceded him in death on May 30, 2001.
He will be greatly missed by 2 sons, Doug (Karen) Kofoed of Des Moines and Darin (Elizabeth) Kofoed of LeRoy, IL; 1 daughter Lisa (Brian) Vogt of Marion; 4 granddaughters, Jennifer, Amber, Paige and Lauren; 2 grandsons, Joshua and Nathan; 9 great-grandchildren and one brother, Ken (Mary) Kofoed of Marshalltown.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bettiann Halverson Kofoed, his parents, his granddaughter Renee, 3 sisters and 1 brother.
