WATERLOO - Robert K. Steffa, 90, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, March 23, at Lakeview Landing of Friendship Village from health complication.

He was born Dec. 24, 1919, in Gladbrook, son of Amon and Marie Schmoldt Steffa. He married Dorothy Weber on Dec. 4, 1940. She died Feb. 25, 2007.

Mr. Steffa earned a bachelor's degree from Cornell College and received his master's degree in chemistry at Emory University. He was employed at Rath Meat Packing until 1966, then owned and operated Lloyds Garden Center, Vinton, until 1972. He was then plant manager for Western Dressing, Grundy Center, retiring in 1980. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of Waterloo First United Methodist Church.

Survived by: a daughter, Joan (Terry) Murrin of Cedar Rapids; two sons, John (Nancy) of Mars Hill, N.C., and Tim (Riitta) of Brussels, Belgium; a daughter-in-law, Bonny Steffa of Salt Lake City; eight grandchildren, Ryan (Amy), Neil (Erin), Matt (Jen), Scott, Pablo, Mia, Tracy (Mark) and Claire (Randy); and 10 great-grandchildren, Will, Niall, Sean, Emily, Katie, Samantha, Kyle, Josh, Lindee and Danen.

Preceded in death by: a son, Steve; and a great-grandson, Alex Steffa.

Family-directed memorial Services: was held at Waterloo First United Methodist Church (Fireside Chapel). His body has been cremated, with inurnment at a later date in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. The family greeted friends following the service in Hartman Hall at the church
