Isaiah 54 vs. 10 - “Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you.

Irene Pauline, the 12th of 14 children born to Rev Ernest and Anna Juengel, one hour before her twin sister, Thekla Malinda, in Vallonia IN. At the age of 4, the family moved to Sanborn IA; eventually, the family moved to Fort Dodge IA, Hampton IA and again back to Fort Dodge IA where Irene met and on October 4, 1942 married Rev Martin Jonathan Klaus. Their ministry took them to Sac City IA; Royal IA and Garner IA where Pastor Klaus was taken to his heavenly home in 1960. In later years, Irene was married to A. H. Bertram of Storm Lake IA.

At the time of her death, Irene was living in Cedar Rapids IA with her twin sister, Thekla, and Tim and Sherri Dohrmann, Thekla’s son and daughter-in-law; previously, she had been living in Scottsdale AZ with her daughter and son-in-law, Ron and Evie Rohling.

Irene was preceded in death by her husbands, Martin J Klaus and A H Bertram, her parents, 7 brothers and 5 sisters. She is survived by her twin sister Thekla Dohrmann of Cedar Rapids IA and her children, Charles Klaus of Spokane WA, Thomas Klaus of Cedar Rapids IA and Evelyn (Klaus) Rohling of Scottsdale AZ along with 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Before her marriage to and after the death of her husband Rev Martin J Klaus, of Garner IA, Irene worked for several businesses as bookkeeper and for a tax/accounting firm as a receptionist and assistant to the Accountants. For all of her life, Irene was blessed to have known her Lord and Savior in a very personal way. Irene was always a large part of her church, she taught Sunday School, sang in church choirs, often sang solos for weddings and other special events and she was an active member in the church women’s groups. Irene was loved and treasured by many friends and relatives - to know her was to love her.

The family would like to offer their special thanks to the Hospice of Mercy Staff and Volunteers for the wonderful care they provided for Irene.
