VAN HORNE: Betty Jean Schadle died peacefully at her residence on Thrusday, January 13, 2011, surrounded by her family following an extended illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, January 17, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Van Horne with Pastor Norman Bennett officiating. Interment will be held at the Garrison Cemetery in Garrison. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday. A Memorial Fund has been established.

Betty was born August 28, 1935 in Vinton to Marvin and Sadie (Coy) Sturtz and graduated from the Garrison High School.

On October 24, 1954 she was united in marriage to Robert Schadle at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Van Horne.

For nineteen years Betty was employed as a housekeeper at the Keystone Nursing Care Center in Keystone. An active member of the United Methodist Church in Van Horne, she served on numerous committees and was a member of the women's circle of her congregation. She was also a member of the Van Horne American Legion Auxiliary.

Betty was very gifted, lovingly sewing quilts and teddy bears, crocheting, and making baskets and jewelry for friends and family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, camping, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Robert of Van Horne; her sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Teresa Schadle of Vinton, Greg and Kris Schadle of Keystone, and Scott and Amy Schadle of Watkins; her grandchildren, Neil and Madelyn Schadle; and her sister, Dorothy (Billy) Readnour of Garrison.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents, Otis Darwin and Nellie Malinda (Engledow) Coy, and Henry and Emma Troxel Sturtz.
