David Lee Rinderknecht, 67, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following a lengthy illness. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion. Private family interment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Public visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. The casket will not be open at the church on Wednesday. Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.

David was born May 19, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Alfred and Irene (Krug) Rinderknecht. He graduated from Linn-Mar High School and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1967. David worked as an internal auditor, farmed and owned a tree service company, retiring in 2010.

He was a member of King of Kings Lutheran Church. Dave loved his family. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren and the company of his brothers and sisters. He was a devoted son and father. Dave was born with a green thumb and loved his garden. He enjoyed playing cards, investing and most of all, fishing with his sons and brothers. He loved making people smile and had a tenacious sense of humor.

He is survived by his two children, Kae Dee (Steve) Schroeder of Columbia, Mo., and Jad Rinderknecht of St. Paul, Minn.; two stepchildren, Michael (Wendi) Buck of Rosemont, Minn., and Andrew (Karoline) Buck of Rosemont, Minn.; five grandchildren, Elsa, Henry, Kira, Brenna and Thatcher; two sisters, Betty Ann (Jim) Madan of White Plains, N.Y., and Carol Rae (Scott) Bruntjen of Eldora, Colo,; and two brothers, Richard (Sandra) Rinderknecht of West Des Moines and Don (Priscilla) Rinderknecht of Marion.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial fund has been established.
