Roger Glenn Pyburn was a caring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. He passed away suddenly on December 25, 2020 at age 81.
Roger was born in Chicago, IL, to Edward Roger Pyburn and Frances Glenn Pyburn on December 2, 1939. After graduating from Belle Plaine High School, Belle Plaine, IA, Roger studied at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, IA, where he received his Undergraduate and Master's degrees in education. On June 29, 1962, Roger married Connie Rae Welch. Together, they had three sons: David, Andrew, and Matthew. Throughout their marriage, Roger and Connie lived in many Iowa cities, Washington DC, Norfolk, VA, and Pensacola, FL, before moving to Cordova, TN in 2018. Their adventures together brought them to cities across the United States, on each coast, nestled in the mountains, and planted in the heat of the desert.
Roger greatly impacted the lives of the family he dearly loved. He was very proud of his three sons and their families and found great joy in spending time with them. In his work, he also greatly impacted lives as a teacher and school administrator before entering the business world. When he wasn't with family, Roger loved walking along the Emerald Coast beaches or reading a book with the sun radiating overhead. Roger's love for his Lord and Savior was reflected in his interactions with others, his warm smile as he greeted visitors and people at church, and the hours he volunteered at church and in the community alongside Connie.
Roger will be lovingly remembered by his wife Connie; three sons: David (Kristi), Andrew, and Matthew (Jessica); nine grandchildren: Drew (Rachel), Andrea, Jakob, Joshua, Justin, Rebecca, Jonathan, Jack, and Sarah Kate; and three great grandchildren from Drew (Rachel): Grace, Sarah, and Adam. He will also be missed by his sister, Francie Pyburn Metzger of Cape Coral, FL and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Beverly Lahn, Poinciana, FL.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Phil Metzger; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and JoAnne Rogers.
Graveside services will be held at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery, Belle Plaine, IA.
