Gary Lee Counter, 62, of Belle Plaine, Iowa, passed away March 4, 2021, at the Oldorf Hospice House, Hiawatha, Iowa, due to cancer.
Gary was born March 19, 1958, to George Counter and Ellen (Ostby) Counter Ericson in St. Cloud, Minn. Gary was an entrepreneur, he as an insurance sales agent, carpenter, realtor, he authored a children's book, was a newspaper columnist, DJ and a craftsman in woodworking.
Gary was a great cook, his family looked forward to the turkey, deviled eggs and homemade bread on the holidays. He loved Wild Cherry Pepsi, root beer floats, '6's music and old movies and TV shows.
He is survived by his children, Ben Counter, Adam Diskerud and Zoe Counter, Paul Barcomb and Janet Rose Schroeder; many grandchildren; siblings, Ken Gates, Audrey Cleppe and Bob (Deb) Diskerud; special nephew, Jeff Counter; and many more family and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tom Diskerud; sister-in-law, Lynn Haldy Gates; and nephew, Brian Cleppe.
Memorial service will take place at a later date.
