Mary D. Berard, 88, of Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of Lake Vermilion, Minn., and Iowa City, passed away on April 27, 2023, in Des Moines.
Mary was born May 13, 1934, in Panora, Iowa, to Gerald "Bud" and Flora "Alice" (Cahow) Paullin. She married David H. Berard and they owned/operated the Pronto Convenience Store in Coralville, and later moved to Lake Vermilion, Minn.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David; and her sister, Jeanne Thompson.
She is survived by her children, Ralph Berard of Vinton, Iowa, Linda (Joe) Vance of Clinton, Iowa, and Carolyn (Jaret) Goforth of West Des Moines; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Scott Thompson; and two nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at the Iles-Dunn's Funeral Home in Des Moines, where visitation begins at noon.
