Earl John Erger, 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at Virginia Gay Nursing & Rehab, Vinton. Private services will be held. Public visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, June 19, 2023 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Vinton. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is caring for Earl and his family.
Earl was born January 3, 1933 in Urbana, the son of John and Dorothy (Schlotterback) Erger. He graduated from Brandon High School in 1951. Earl proudly served in the United States Army from 1953-1955. On April 17, 1954, Earl was united in marriage to Yvonne Wright. Together the couple made their home and farmed the land of Benton County their entire married life.
When he wasn't farming, Earl enjoyed golfing, hunting and wintering in Florida.
Left to cherish Earl's memory are his wife of 69 years, Yvonne; four daughters: Mary (Joe) Robinson, Rosey (Bub) Reifenstahl, Sandy (John) Lindaman and Paula (Rick) Murphy all of Vinton; son, David (Teresa) Erger of FL; grandchildren: Eric (Amy) Stephens, Myriah (Adam) Cole, Carrie (Kurt) Janssen, Mike (Sherry) Reifenstahl, Ryan Lindaman, Jenny (James) Nelsen, Brooke (Andy) Fitzgerald, Aaron Murphy/Brian Kipp, Ben Murphy, Jessica (Justin) Pladsen and Andy (Jamee) Erger; 22 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Harold (Betty) Erger of Center Point and Bill (Paulette Pardun) Erger of Cedar Rapids; and three sisters: Marlys Stueffen and Donna Wetzel of Cedar Rapids and Julia McDaniel of CO.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Darlene (Bob) Shettler; and brother, Joe Erger.
Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
