Gladys C. (Schminke) Hagen, age 87, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, August 14, 2023 at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall, with Rev. Nick Palmer officiating. Interment will be held at St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 5:00 PM at the church on Sunday. The casket will be closed at the family's request. A memorial fund has been established.

Gladys was born on August 19, 1935 in Eden Township, Benton County, the daughter of Roy and Martha (Bierschenk) Schminke. She graduated from Newhall High School with the class of 1953. On May 6, 1956, Gladys was united in marriage to Mearl "Sonny" Hagen at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall. Gladys worked as an administrative assistant at Farm Bureau, retiring after 28 years of service.

Gladys was a lifelong faithful member of St, John Lutheran Church, she enjoyed membership in the Tabitha Society and the quilting group. She was an active volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, accumulating over 10,000 hours of volunteer service. She and Sonny dearly loved attending their grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's school activities and sporting events. They also enjoyed working on puzzles in their time at home.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Mearl "Sonny"; children; Curtis (Pat) Hagen of Delovan, WI, Paul (Mary) Hagen of Marion, Dawn (Brian Steckelberg) Hagen of Loveland, CO, Mary (Steven) Williams of Vinton; 5 grandchildren, Meredith (Aaron) Zuspann of Vinton, Grant (Natalie) Hagen of Richardson, TX, Benjamin (Sarah) Williams of Newhall, Wesly (Beth) Williams of New Haven, IN, Molly (Hunter) Arens of Waterloo; 5 great-grandchildren, Claire Zuspann, Henry Hagen, Ruth, Esther, and Martha Williams; her brother, Virgil (Sharon) Schminke of Vinton; and brother-in-law Robert VanScoy of Winterset; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Velma VanScoy; and 2 brothers, Glenn (Lita) Schminke, and Gerald (Adah) Schminke.
