Surrounded by her loving family, Leslie Davis Mullnix, 79, passed away peacefully from a brief illness at St. Luke's Hospital Sunday, November 12, 2023. Private services will be held. Public Celebration of Life will be 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 18 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Vinton. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is caring for Leslie and her family.
Leslie was born January 7, 1944, in La Porte City, the daughter of Shannon and Marian (Kline) Davis. She was a graduate of La Porte City High School. On June 1, 1984, Leslie married Leonard Mullnix at the Benton County Courthouse. Leslie was employed by Theisen's, and together, Leslie and Leonard owned and operated Schmitt Hardware in Mt. Auburn.
Leslie was in her "happy place" anytime she could crochet, sew, quilt, paint, or winter in Texas with Leonard where they made many memorable friendships. She was a member of Hooks and Needles at First Christian Church, Vinton.
Leslie is survived by four sons: Richard (Jackie) Bear, Chris Bear, Chawn (Julie) Mullnix and Jayson Mullnix; three daughters: Dana (Tom) Hanson, Karen (Virgil) Hootman and Amy (Steve) Van De Walle; 14 grandchildren: Elizabeth, Jacob, Morgan, Riley, Kyle, Trina, Andrew, Abby, Alyssa, Alex, Dylan, James, Lucas and Peyton; several great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Howrey; and many nieces and nephews.
Leslie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard; four sisters; and one brother.
A memorial fund has been established.
