Obituaries : Sandra Ann Fratzke

Sandra Ann Fratzke, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and collector, was born July 3, 1951. On November 14, 2023, she skated back into the arms of her beloved husband Dennis, 54 years after they met while roller skating in Independence.
The daughter of Kenneth Simon and the former Irene McCrady, Sandra was born in Waterloo. Sandra and Dennis married in 1969 and had three children, Kelly, Daniel, and Dawn. They raised their children in Vinton, where they survived the heartbreak of losing Danny at age 11. Their later years were spent in the North Liberty/Coralville area.
Sandra was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister Diane, and Danny and Dennis. She is survived by her children Kelly Fratzke-Blake (Eliot), Dawn Evans (Tom), three grandchildren, Nicholas (Lauren), Zachary, and Eva, and brother Jake Simon.
Sandra had an abiding love of all God's creatures, especially dogs and most especially horses. She was skilled at raising and showing Arabians and quarter horses, and in later years turned to collecting Breyer horses and caring for mini pinschers and chihuahuas.  
A memorial for Sandra and Dennis will be held at a later date, when they can be laid to rest with Danny in Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Friends of the Iowa City Animal Shelter, Meals on Wheels, or the horse rescue organization of your choice.
