Robert V. "Bob" McLaren, 97, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, went home
to be with the Lord on January 24, 2024, after a life well lived.
Bob was born September 29, 1926, in Butler County, IA, to George "Vern" and Freda (Lursen) McLaren.
He attended school in Hampton, IA, and Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA. He spent a short period of time
in the Army Air Corps at the end of WWII and was in the reserves at the start of the Korean Conflict.
He married Evelyn Boyenga on April 23, 1948, in Hampton, IA. They celebrated their 75 th wedding
anniversary last year.
Bob was a linotype operator in Iowa Falls, IA, Henry, IL, and Davenport, IA. While working and raising a
family in Davenport, he attended Palmer College of Chiropractic, graduating in 1959. His first practice
was in Cherokee, IA. He moved to Dysart, IA, in 1960 where he practiced chiropractic until retiring in
1989. During his time in Dysart, he was a member of the Lions Club and served on the Dysart-Geneseo
School Board. He was a member of River's Edge Christian Church in Waterloo, IA.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Evelyn; children, Tim (Mary) of Marion, IA, Steve of Ft.
Lauderdale, FL, Diane (Mark) Huisenga of Arlington, VA, Jeff of Waterloo, IA, Tom (Karen) of
Germantown, IL; grandchildren, Chris McLaren, Nick McLaren, Heather Hart, Meghan Huisenga, Nathan
Huisenga, Kyle McLaren, Noah McLaren, Matt Jacobsen, Stephanie Jacobsen, and Allison McLaren; and
five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harold; sister, Mavis; son, Michael; granddaughter,
Kelley McLaren; and grandson, Kaylan McLaren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at River's Edge Christian Church, 1247 Cedar Bend
St., Waterloo, IA. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, the service at 11:00 AM with a lunch following.
Graveside service will be at 2:00 PM at the Dysart Cemetery, 1942 X Ave., Dysart, IA.
