Avis E. Ingersoll, 79, a resident of Stoney Point Meadows in Cedar Rapids, passed away on Sunday August 4, 2024, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 9, 2024 at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton, with Rev. Adam Baumann officiating. Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 PM, on Thursday, also at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to Last Hope Animal Rescue, in Cedar Rapids.
Avis was born August 7, 1944 to Otto and Esther (Turnwall) Jeske at Eldora, IA. She graduated from Eldora High School.
Avis was united in marriage to Robert M. Ingersoll on June 5, 1976, in Ankeny. They were married for almost 29 years, prior to Robert's death in February of 2005.
Avis worked as a server at Café 218 from 1976 until their closing. She retired from Scott's in Cedar Rapids in 2014. Avis truly enjoyed serving others, and always left the facility cleaner than when she came to work. In her younger years, she served as a cub scout den mother, and was an accomplished gardener, and baker. She had a special fondness for all animals. She truly loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-granddaughter.
Avis is survived by her children, Sheri (Toby) Shaver of Center Point, Terry (Janine) Riese of Shellsburg; 2 grandchildren, Chrissy (Jacob) Kohl of Cedar Rapids; Ryan Riese of Shellsburg; her great-granddaughter, Coraline Kohl; brother, Robert (Connie) Jeske of Eldora; and 2 sisters, Norma (Vic) Hesterman of Los Altos Hills, CA; and Carolyn (Don) DeNeui of Eldora.
In addition to her parents, and husband Robert, she was preceded in death by her son, Shawn Ingersoll; 2 brothers, Walter and Richard Jeske; and her sister Donna Jeske.
