Dale Frank Sutton, 92, of Vinton, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 29, 2024, at the Lutheran Living Community in Vinton. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Wesley United Methodist Church, Vinton, with Rev. Brian Channel officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., at the church, on Thursday. Interment will be in the Dysart Cemetery. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is caring for Dale and his family.
Dale was born on May 10, 1932 in Tama County, the son of Frank and Ella (Kersten) Sutton. He went to country school through the 8th grade and graduated from Lincoln High School (Vinton) in 1950.
On October 29, 1952, Dale was united in marriage to Donna Jans at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Shortly after, Dale entered the Army from 1953-1955. After his discharge, Dale and Donna moved back to farm north of Mt. Auburn. In 1968, Dale became part owner of Mt. Auburn Grain until it was sold in 1986. They continued farming until 1997 when they moved to Vinton.
Dale enjoyed traveling with his wife, Donna, especially their winter trips in their motorhome to Donna, TX. In his retirement, Dale enjoyed making hook latch rugs, knitting stocking caps, playing cards with friends, and playing solitaire on his IPad. Prior to joining Wesley United Methodist Church in Vinton, Dale was a 50-year member of the Mt. Auburn Methodist Church where he served on the church board. He was also a 4H leader for 25 years, served on the 4H Extension Council and was a life member of the Mt. Auburn American Legion.
Left to cherish Dale's memory are his wife of 72 years, Donna of Vinton; sons: Doug (Brenda) Sutton, and David (Jill) Sutton of Vinton; daughters: Diane (Mike) LaGrange of Vinton, and Delain (Ken) Boeding of New London; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Norma Sutton of Marion and Billie Jans of Traer; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother and sister; sisters and brothers-in-law: Maxine and Richard Higgins, and Lucille and Harlan Higgins; brother, Marvin Sutton; brother-in-law, Curtis Jans; grandson, Ben Sutton; and great-grandson, Royce Sutton.
A memorial fund has been established.
