David Wayne Felker, 70, passed away peacefully after an extended illness with his family by his side in a Pensacola hospital on February 27, 2025.
David was born to Donald and Joann (Kisling) Felker on February 2, 1955, in Vinton Iowa. He grew up on the family farm just outside of Urbana Iowa.
He graduated from Urbana High School in 1973. Soon after he enlisted in the Air Force. He left in September for basic training and returned in May 1974 to marry his high school sweetheart, Paula Shaver. During his service David earned his Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Arizona. He later earned his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Mercer University. In 1993 David retired as a Captain from the Air Force. He and Paula settled in Macon, Georgia. David pursued his love of aviation once again working for the Air Force as a contract employee. Paula passed away soon after on March 20, 1994.
Later David remarried and moved to Crestview Florida. They eventually divorced.
At the time of his death David was employed as Director of Engineering at R4 Incorporated, Fort Walton Beach, Florida. He was very proud of his design of the Blackhawk helicopter and other aircraft.
David is survived by his father, Donald Felker of Urbana. Siblings, Mike (Donna) Felker of Rio Rancho NM, Susan (Mike) Benson of Urbana, Robert (Rita) Felker of Center Point, Terry (Jennifer) Felker of Marion. Father- in-Law, Paul Shaver of Vinton, Brother-in-Laws Tim Shaver of Garrison, Toby (Sheri) Shaver of Center Point, Marvin Boyles of West Point, Ted (Shelly Shaver of Center Point. Sister in laws Pam (Martin) Hepker of Marion and Cathy Schoeberl of Urbana. Step grandchildren, Emily, Daniel and Alex of Crestview Florida.
David also survived by many nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his wife, Paula, mother, Joann Felker, mother-in-law, Betty Shaver. His grandparents. Sister-in-Law Christine Boyles
Brother-in-Law, Skip Schoeberl. Nephew Scott Beauregard.
David will be laid to rest next to Paula in private service at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Macon, GA.
