Doug Johnson, 68, of Alden, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at the Mary Greely Medical Center in Ames. A Celebration of Life will be held from 9 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls.
Doug was born on June 21, 1956, in Webster City, Iowa, to Howard and Shirley (Reinsel) Johnson. He graduated from Northeast Hamilton High School and dedicated much of his life to his work, family, and passions.
Doug married Cindy Rieck, on July 11, 1975, at the Popejoy Methodist Church. Their marriage lasted 50 years, and together they raised a loving family. Doug worked with the Iowa Department of Transportation for 32 years until he retired.
Outside of his professional life, Doug had a variety of interests that filled his days with joy. He was an avid music lover and enjoyed playing the drums in a band, bringing rhythm and life to every performance. He had a passion for woodworking and spent many hours crafting beautiful projects. Doug was also a classic car enthusiast and loved collecting cars and toys. He enjoyed spending time on the golf course and was a loyal follower of his grandchildren's sports activities, always cheering them on with pride.
Doug is survived by his beloved wife Cindy of Alden; his children, Josh (Marissa) Johnson of Allendale, Michigan, and their children Taylor, Bryant, Mara, and Adam; Joe (Jill) Johnson of Vinton, Iowa, and their children Julia, Jacoby, Jaxon, Jantz, and Jevin; and Jenny Johnson of Grundy Center, Iowa, and her son Brecken. He is also survived by his brother Drew Johnson of Georgia.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Shirley Johnson; his brothers, Don and Dave Johnson; and his sister Dianne Johnson.
