Craig Steven Preston, 66, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, June 19, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Teahen Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m.

Craig was born February 8, 1959, in Denison, Iowa, to Derwon "Ray" and Marjorie "Marge" (Sommer) Preston. He graduated from Missouri Valley High School with the Class of 1977. On April 16, 1983, he married the love of his life, Laurel Rose "Lori" Walsh, in Missouri Valley, Iowa.

Craig began his career with the City of Cedar Rapids Water Department in 1982 and retired proudly on March 27, 2020, after decades of dedicated service.

Craig had a love for golf, all things Iowa Hawkeyes and spending time with family and friends. He found great joy in being outdoors, tending to his lawn and garden, sharing laughs with loved ones, and caring for his beloved pets, Samantha and Willow.

Remaining to cherish Craig's memory is his stepson Glen (Tracy) Dargy of Shellsburg; grandchildren: Noah (Alex) Dargy of Charleston, WV, Hanna (Matthew) Palazzolo of Arlington, TN, Seth (Miranda) Dargy of Shellsburg, and Faith Dargy of Shellsburg; great granddaughter Hazel Jo Palazzolo; siblings: Darlys (Kevin) Sylvis of Madison, SD, Kim (Valerie) Preston of Council Bluffs, IA, Denise Preston of Missouri Valley, IA, Lisa Jones of Auburn, NE, Kyle (Kathy) Preston of Missouri Valley, IA, Michelle Schommer of Norfolk, NE, and Julie (Chad) Stork of Blair, NE; niece Sarah Walsh of Cedar Rapids and by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lori; his parents, Ray and Marge Preston; infant brother Bruce; sister Barbara Preston; in-laws Laurence and Betty Walsh; brothers-in-law; grandparents; and other beloved family members.
