Obituaries : Elaine A. Brown

Elaine A. Brown, 89, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Unity Point Health in Bettendorf.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, June 27, 2025 at Our Savior Lutheran Church of Bettendorf where she was a faithful member. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. Friday at the church. Family graveside services will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.

She was born in Vinton, Iowa on January 17, 1936, the daughter of Everett Raymond and Leona Elizabeth (Mussman) Mayhew and was always proud to have grown up on an Iowa farm. On August 12, 1956, she was united in marriage to Roger Brown in Vinton.

Elaine graduated from Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa and spent many years as a devoted elementary school teacher at Hoover Elementary School and Jefferson Elementary School, both in Bettendorf.

Her memberships included the Iowa State Educational Association and Oakwood Country Club.

In her spare time, she loved to play golf, enjoyed writing and exploring family genealogy.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Roger; her children, Julie (James) Torres of Bettendorf, Dan (Ann) Brown of Bettendorf and Dave (Lesley Ackerman) Brown of Boulder, Colorado; her grandchildren, Matt (Kristina) Brown, Mike Brown, Alyssa Brown, Nikki (Kevin) Sheehan and Dani Torres; her great-grandchildren, Elaine "Elly" Sheehan, Jeni Brown and Tira Brown; and her brother, Marlyn Mayhew of Vinton.

Elaine was preceded in death by her brother, Don Mayhew.
