Alexander “Bill” McGregor, 70, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2026 at Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Services pending at Phillips Funeral Homes.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PMat the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton. Private family graveside services will be held. Casket will be closed at all times.

Bill was born April 25, 1955, in Cedar Rapids, son of Alexander and Edith (Wims) McGregor Jr. He graduated from Benton Community High School with the class of 1973. He worked 40 years for Whirlpool Amana as a Machine Operator.

Bill was fond of horses. He bred horses, and enjoyed riding and taking them to parades. His favorite horse was Smoke who he trained himself to ride and pull a buggy. He could be found at the Kalona Horse Sale on the 1st Monday of every month. He would always attend the Benton County Fair to watch the horse events. Bill also loved watching wrestling, Iowa Basketball and Football games, and watching Nascar, especially Jeff Gordon. He would take his nieces and nephews to dirt track races. His visitors were always greeted with a pop and a candy bar.

Bill is survived by his nieces, Sarah (Jason) Yanna and Jennifer (Tom) Butler; his nephew, Jon (Nicole) Franck; his great-nieces, Sydney Franck, Kaitlyn Butler, Robyn Yanna, Courtney Davenport, and Kale Gates; and his great-nephews, Alexander Franck, Jacob Franck, Kyle Davenport, and Andrew Yanna.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Edith; his sisters, Janet Hohl, Nancy Franck, and Marilyn McGregor; and his nephew, Charlie Franck.
