George Daniel Martin, 33, of Norway, passed away Monday, April 13, 2026 in Walford. Visitation services will be at Clover Ridge United Methodist Church in Walford on Sunday, April 19th, from 2 to 6 p.m. and Monday, April 20th, from 9 to 10 a.m. The funeral service will follow in the church on Monday at 10 a.m. The burial will take place at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fairfax.
George is survived by his parents, Don and Cari Martin; siblings, Kathryn (Brandon) Noah, Julianne Martin (Jacob Ross), and Elizabeth (Jordan) Ferry; nieces Hazelmae and Hensley and nephew Harrison Noah; grandparents, Sandra Martin, Dann and Shari Harwood, and Lorie and Mike Kaiser; several aunts and uncles; and many cousins.
George was preceded in death by his grandfather, George Martin; and aunt, Mary Gase.
George was born on September 20, 1992, son of Don and Cari (Harwood) Martin in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Benton Community High School in 2011. George attended Kirkwood Community College and earned an agricultural degree in diesel mechanics. He worked at Cargill for five years and later followed his passion for coding as a software engineer.
George had a curious mind; he loved figuring out how things worked and how he could improve their design. This flowed into helping his Dad on the family farm, completing self-inspired projects, and teaching himself to code and build websites. His creativity was also shown by his love for the arts. George was a part of many musicals, plays, and performances throughout adolescence. Music was an integral part of George; his broad musical taste helped shape him and inspired his family and friends.
He was often found outside- whether kayaking, camping, or walking and appreciating nature. He enjoyed the simpler things in life.
George’s soft nature was shown by his devotion to his parents, younger sisters, nieces and nephew, and Shadow, the senior German Shepard he loved through the last phase of her life. He is remembered fondly with his bright eyes and dimpled smile.
Memorials may be directed to the Linn County Mental Health Access Center.
