Velma R. (Parmater) Blough, 88, of Branson, Mo., formerly of Vinton, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, at home following a brief illness. Private committal services will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements are with Phillips Funeral Home, Vinton.

Velma was born Aug. 28, 1923, in Vinton, the daughter of C. Earle and Elizabeth (Ross) Parmater. She graduated from Vinton High School in 1941 and married Orval R. Blough on Nov. 9, 1941, at the Little Brown Church.

Survivors include her children, Sandy (Dennis) Hertle of Atkins, Becky Mikesell of Cedar Rapids and Bill Blough of Branson, Mo.; grandchildren, Mike Hertle, Shelley (James) Comisky, Missy Hertle, Nikki (Marc) Pollock, Blake Mikesell, Heather and Heidi Blough; great-grandchildren, T.J. Comisky, Ellah Mikesell, Hailey Pollock and Malanna Blough; sisters, Lois Pennington of Everett, Wash., Jo Warner and Pat Salger, both of Vinton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orval; son-in-law, John Mikesell; one great-grandson; sisters, Nan Mussman, Ginny Heath and Mary Jean Walter; and brothers, Cliff, Ross, Russ, Bill and Vernie Parmater.

She enjoyed reading, scrapbooking, working crossword puzzles, and spending time with family.
