LaVaun “Bonnie” Milne, 92, passed away on May 23, 2012, at Beatrice Hover Assisted Living Residence in Longmont, Colorado. Bonnie was born on December 23, 1919, to William Raymond and Anna (Fehr) Raymond of Garrison, Iowa and was a graduate of Garrison High School. Bonnie and Dean Gilliatt of Garrison were married from July 1943 until his death on active military duty in June, 1944. They had one daughter, Sherry Gilliatt Cross. Bonnie served as Iowa’s first Postmistress at the Garrison Post Office. On September 2, 1949, she married Clyde “Bud” Milne of Dysart, Iowa. They had one son, Dennis Milne. The family farmed near Dysart, later farming near Vinton, Iowa. Bonnie and Bud retired in 1997 and moved to Vinton before relocating to Colorado in 2007.
She was a very caring and loving mother and grandmother. Her family’s fondest memories are of her cooking and baking. She was a master at bringing farm grown foods to her family’s table, including chicken and noodles, assorted pies, chocolate chip cookies, cherry kuchen and home canned produce. Her children will never forget the joy of morel mushroom hunting with her in the woods of central Iowa.
Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents, infant twins Lois and Lola Milne, her sisters, Edith Hartz, Maye Weibeck, Emma Winkelpleck, Sylvia Blocker, and her brothers, Kermit, Merlin, Charles, Bob, William and Leland Raymond.
She is survived by her spouse, Clyde Milne of Broomfield, Colorado, daughter Sherry Cross (Jerome) of Longmont, Colorado, son Dennis Milne of Dallas, Texas, grandchildren Jerry Cross (Anne) of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Sara Walcher (Warren) of Fruita, Colorado, and great grandchildren Cory Walcher, Dustin Walcher, Christopher Walcher and Elaine Cross.
