Herman Wax, 87, of Grinnell, died on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 7, at the First Presbyterian Church in Grinnell. A private family burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Herman was born on February 20, 1925, near Vinton, Iowa to Joseph and Maude Paige Wax. He attended and graduated school there. He attended Iowa State University for one year. He served in the Navy from 1944-1945.

On July 10, 1949, he married Shirley Jean Moore in Vinton, Iowa. Together they had six children; Gail, James, Wayne, John, Steven, and Sue Ellen.

Herman enjoyed baseball, bowling and chatting with anyone he met. Shirley and Herman often went square dancing. He loved the Cubs, Miami Dolphins and the Cyclones. Herman was always helping someone out and was a generous man.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Grinnell, daughter, Gail (Earl) Moses of Texas, sons, James Wax of Grinnell, Wayne (Cindy) Wax of Joliet, Illinois and John (LeAnn) Wax of Marshalltown, six grandchildren, Matt Moses, Karen Moses, Nicole (Brian) Poling, Joseph (Maggie) Wax, Jason (Jessica) Marken and Brett Wax, seven great grandchildren, Alex, Brian Jr., Sebastian, Lillian, Evelyn, Madelyn and Victoria and one brother Clifford Wax of Mason City, Iowa.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents, son, Steven Wax, daughter, Sue Ellen Wax, two sisters, Nina Merchant and Delia Wax and one granddaughter, Amy.
