VINTON: Mildred Louise Geiger, 86, of Lone Tree and formerly of Vinton, died Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at her home in Lone Tree, IA following a sudden illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, August 19, 2012 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th St. in Vinton. Private Committal Services will be held at the Urbana Cemetery. Friends may register at the funeral home from noon until service time.
A Memorial Fund has been established.
Mildred was born May 19, 1926 at Greenacres, FL. to John and Mable (Brubaker)Norman. She married Orville Manley, who preceded her in death on December 1, 1957. On October 12, 1959 she married Clifford H. Geiger at Iowa City. He preceded her in death on June 26, 1992.
Mildred graduated from high school at the age of 16 and attended William Penn College in Oskaloosa where she received her teaching certificate at the age of 17. She had to wait until she turned 18 to begin teaching at Eldon, Iowa. She taught school at Eldon for four years and then moved to Newton where she taught school for two more years. Mildred then stopped teaching to become a lifelong farmwife and homemaker. While living in Vinton, Mildred was employed as a clerk at the Dollar Store from 1995 to 2009.
In her leisure she enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her sons, Donald (Louise) Manley of Texas, Joe (Barb) Geiger of Lone Tree, and Jeff (LaDonna) Geiger of Vinton; her daughters, Linda (Mike) Dales of Des Moines, and Susan (Edward) Mearidan of Montana; step-son, Terry (Shirley) Geiger of Vinton and number of grand and great grandchildren; and her sister, Janice Becker of Shelby.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her two husbands, two brothers, Jim and Tom Norman and three step-children, Lyle and Larry Geiger and Lyla Mae Wubbena.
