Gary J. Pieper, 65, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at Manor Care in Cedar Rapids, following an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids where friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Pastor David V. Miller will officiate. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton at 2 p.m. Thursday with Graveside Military Rites conducted by Thomas F. Bevins American Legion Post #148 of Van Horne and Iowa Military Funeral Honors. Phillips Funeral Home, Vinton, is in charge of arrangements.
Gary was born May 14, 1947, in Vinton, to Joe and Arlene (Wright) Pieper. In 1965, he graduated from the Van Horne High School. During Vietnam he served his nation in the Air Force from 1967 to 1971. He was a member of the Thomas F. Bevins American Legion Post #148 in Van Horne.
Gary was a sales associate at K Mart West in Cedar Rapids, before his retirement. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids.
He is survived by his sisters, Marcia Boies of Olathe, Kan. and Jolene Pieper of Walker; and one nephew, Matt Boies.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
