VINTON – Lois Merle Tharp, 87, died Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2013, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. David Gates officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
Lois was born July 24, 1925, in Vinton, Iowa, the daughter of William and Sarah Crow Vogt. She was raised and attended school in Vinton.
She worked as a cook and also at the Green Giant Corn Canning Plant in Vinton.
Lois was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She loved to play bingo and spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Lois is survived by three sons: Ronnie (Darlene) Tharp of Denison, TX, and Denny (Pam) and Billy (Susan) Tharp, both of Vinton; four daughters: Sandra Dvorak, Carla Kearns, Paula Tharp and Debra (Ted Usher) Wheeler, all of Vinton; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son: Johnnie Tharp; one daughter: Vicki Schuelka; three brothers; two sisters; grandson Ronald "Ronnie" Tharp; and son-in-law Richard Kearns.
A memorial fund has been established.
