Kenny Mahr, 64, died Monday, January 14, 2013 at the Vinton Lutheran Home following an extended illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th St.in Vinton. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery with Graveside Military Rites conducted by Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post #57 and Iowa Military Funeral Honors. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. A Memorial Fund has been established.
Kenneth Edward Mahr was born May 17, 1948 to Reginald and Evelyn (Casey) Mahr in Spring Grove, MN. He graduated from Washington High School in Vinton with the class of 1966.
During the Vietnam War Kenny served his nation in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970. He was a member and Past Commander of Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post #57 of Vinton.
On June 27, 1969, he married Kathy Ransom in Vinton and the couple later divorced. Kenny was a self employed trucker for many years and was employed in the Production Dept of Wendling Quarries before retiring in 2009. He enjoyed golf, stock car racing and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his children, Shannon (Misty) Mahr of Dysart and Hayley (Jeff) Rippel of Vinton; his grandchildren, Taylor McGowan and Nathan Mahr and Dylan, Tyler and Chase Rippel; his brothers, Lowell "Butch" (Mary Ellen Mahr of Vinton, Jim (Kathy) Mahr of Grants Pass, OR and Brett (Lois) Mahr of Cedar Rapids; his sisters, Janice Parr of Vinton, Joanne (Lyle) Ternus of Dysart, Marilyn "Sam" (Marv) Hite of Vinton, Maxine Braasch and Kathy Lea, both of Cedar Rapids, and Cindy (Bryan) Lower of Ely; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jack Parr and his nephew Jacob Mahr.
