Riley J. Reeves, 82, of Vinton, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2010, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton with Pastor Jim Blair officiating. Military rites will be performed by Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post 57 of Vinton and by Iowa Military Funeral Honors of Iowa City. A celebration of life will follow at Windsor Manor in Vinton. As per Riley’s wishes, his body has been cremated.
Riley was born November 4, 1927, in Bucknell, Iowa, the son of Riley M. and Eva Hill Reeves. He joined the U.S. Army and served 15 years during WWII and the Korean War. He lived in Hampton, IL, before moving to Vinton, where he spent the majority of his life.
In 1962, Riley was united in marriage with Novil Reeves in Columbus Junction.
Riley did road construction and later worked and eventually retired from Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and spending time with family. He was active in the Eagles Club and the American Legion.
Riley is survived by two daughters: Roline Simon of Milford, KS, and Sharon (Mitch) Tuttle of Vinton; four grandchildren: Devin and Derrick Simon, Mitchell A. Tuttle and Nichole (Nic Scott) Moss; one great-grandson: Nashua Scott; four brothers: Lyle, Ray, Harry and Archie Reeves; and one sister: Mary Reeves.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Novil; three brothers: Bobby, Joey and Marty Reeves; and one sister: Lavonne Brozovich.
Iowa Cremation assisted with the cremation, and Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home is caring for the family with local funeral services. Condolences for the family may be left at www.vsrfh.com.
