David N. Anthony

VINTON – David N. Anthony, 77, died Monday, March 18, 2013, at the Vinton Lutheran Home following a lingering illness.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013, at First Christian Church in Vinton with Rev. Connie Wacht officiating. Military rites will be performed by Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post 57 of Vinton and U.S. Navy Funeral Honors of Great Lakes, IL. Memorial visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 29, also at First Christian Church, with a Masonic Service at
7 p.m. Per David’s wishes, his body has been cremated and his ashes will be scattered in the Pacific Ocean.

David was born April 25, 1935, in Tauton, Massachusetts, the son of Luther J. and Gene Anthony. He graduated from Plymouth High School in Plymouth, New Hampshire. He continued his education at San Diego State University and received his Juris Doctorate from Western State Law School.

David proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1953 until 1957. He worked in electronics and later in government services.

David worked for the Social Security Administration for many years. He later worked for the Bureau of Land Management and was a seasonal park ranger in Kentucky, Montana, Wyoming, Florida, Colorado and Kansas. He was also a substitute teacher in Wyoming and at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. He retired in 1993.

On June 27, 1972, David was united in marriage with Patricia Driscol in Vinton. They enjoyed foster parenting for 13 years.

David was a member of First Christian Church and Masonic Lodge #62 in Vinton. He enjoyed traveling, golf, crossword puzzles, and operating his Ham radio.

David is survived by his wife of 40 years, Pat Anthony, of Vinton; one sister, Sally (Sam) Paul of North Granby, CT; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial fund has been established for a stained glass window to be placed at First Christian Church in David’s memory.
