URBANA: Evelyn Pearl Phelps, 92, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at the Vinton Lutheran Home following an extended illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th St. in Vinton with Pastor Larry Schmidt officiating. Interment will be held at the Urbana Cemetery in Urbana. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m., on Monday.
Evelyn was born May 18, 1920 in Platte City, Missouri to Robert and Sarah (Boydston) Blankenship. On February 5, 1941 she was united in marriage to Morris Phelps at Smithville, MO. He preceded her in death on February 18, 1991.
Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother and grandma. She enjoyed membership in the Free Methodist Church in rural Urbana, loved the outdoors, flowers, gardening and birds.
Her family gives special thanks to Elaine Dingbaum for her love and dedication to their Mom over the years.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Lois (Chester) Schantz of Alburnett, Judy Phelps of Cedar Rapids, Janet (Dennis) Umbdenstock of Urbana, and Joy Wellington of Phoenix, AZ; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and her sisters, Maxine Tester, Ruby Phelps, Thelma (Jack) Shreve, Peggy Rick and Shirley Abbott, all of Missouri.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Jeffrey Rick; her granddaughter, Shelley Gee and her great-grandson, Tobias; her brothers, Marvin, and Robert, Jr; and two sisters, Mildred Huntley and Elsie Medley.
