VINTON – Ines Beatrice “Bea” Lang, 95, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab in Vinton following a long illness.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 8, 2013, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton with Pastor Joshua Graber officiating. Visitation will be held Monday at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
Bea was born August 14, 1917, in Caneyville, Kentucky, the daughter of Kelley and Eulah Renfrow Bolton. In 1921, Bea’s family moved to Iowa, where Bea graduated from Imogene High School in 1935. Following graduation, she aided a family that was stricken with polio.
On December 31, 1935, Bea was united in marriage with Paul Lang in Shenandoah, Iowa. He preceded her in death in March of 1983.
Bea cared for children of working mothers for 14 ½ years. Bea was interested in children’s nutrition, and she helped start the school lunch program in Ellston, Iowa, in 1941. After she and Paul moved to Vinton in 1966, she worked as the head dietician at the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School until her retirement in December of 1983.
Bea was a faithful member of First Christian Church in Vinton. She enjoyed reading, cooking, going on trips, sending cards and letters to her friends and family, as well as spending time with them, and playing games, particularly Yahtzee and Aggravation.
Bea is survived by one son, Duane (Pat) Lang of Essex, IA; one sister, Anna Rose (Dean) Goodman of Diagonal, IA; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; one son, Jim Lang; one daughter, Paula Gravel; 4 brothers and 4 sisters.
