Kerry Halva-Cash, 40, of West Union, granddaughter of Jeanne Gulick of Vinton, died June 15 at University Hospitals in Iowa City. Services were held on Saturday at the United Methodist Church in West Union.
Kerry was born Dec. 5 1969, the daughter of Gary and Karen (Gulick) Halva. In March of 1995, Kerry was married to Williams Cash. In 1996, she was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and received a heart transplant at the University of Minnesota Hospital in 1997. After recovering, Kerry was active in "Iowa's Child" fostering program, fostering several children and then adopting her two sons, Danny and Tracy. Kerry and Bill were divorced in 2005 and she moved to West Union where she continued in the fostering program, and adopted her two daughters, Savannah and Caroline. Kerry was engaged to Mathew Krull on Jan 16, 2010 and were planning a July 3 wedding. Kerry was a devoted mother and enjoyed their activities. She organized an after school program at the United Methodist Church. Kerry is survived by her four children, Danny, Tracy, Savannah and Caroline, her fiance, Mathew Krull of West Union, her parents, Gary and Karen Halva of West Union, her sister, Jessica {Aaron) Salvo of Queen Creek AZ, her grandmother Jeanne Gulick of Vinton, and many aunts, uncle & cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother Tracy in 1990, and her grandparents, Rudy and Dortha Halva and Wayne Gulick.
