To the good people of Vinton, I am a proud alum of the Iowa Braille & Sight Saving School from 1964 to 1972. On behalf of myself and fellow classmates, I would like to express my deepest thanks to you for the wonderful education and positive impact the school had on our lives.

Buddy Check 22: Help look out for our soldiers and veterans

I checked on a Buddy today. Did you? A year ago, on Aug. 22, 2015, a group of veterans started a Facebook movement called Buddy Check 22. The goal is for someone to contact a veteran on the 22nd of every month, just to let them know you are thinking of them, and to make sure they are ok.

It's been a while since I've read the book, "If you give a Mouse a Cookie" but the other day I saw a version of it being acted out before my very eyes.

Vinton cannot afford to lose IBSSS Campus, but can we afford to keep it?

Several years ago, I sat with Dawn Pettengill at a hearing when the Board of Regents decided to consolidate all of the students at the Vinton facility with the other students at the Council Bluffs facility.
