Saturday was a great lesson for me. It answered a question for me that many married people at times have in their mind but dread to voice outloud:

"What would life be like if I were still single?"

Well, I got one answer to that question Saturday.

I spent the morning listening to NPR.

And dusting my desk.

And sitting for hours with my cat on my lap.

"I feel like a 50-something bachelorette," I told the woman who made it possible for me to avoid spending every day like I spent Saturday morning.

But there was something very good about my Saturday -- it helped me learn more about the Christmas classics.

I had just finished reading "A Christmas Carol." By the way, the Jim Carrey movie based on that famous Dickens book is very true to the story. After watching the movie at the Palace last year, I read the book again. I was surprised to discover that many of the things that I assumed were crazy additions by the movie-makers were actually based on Dickens' words. See the movie again. Read the book. You can do both in one evening.

One of the questions one the NPR show, "What d'ya Know?" was about the short story "Gift of the Magi" by O. Henry. I had heard of the story, but never ready it. You can click here to read it yourself.

There are lots of Christmas classics. The Charlie Brown Christmas on TV is one of them.

They are classics because they express in our modern way, the faith that came to us on the very first Christmas. Click HERE to see a web site that lets you read many of them on-line.

Experience them again. Let their faith renew yours.
